These tubes are made by forming and welding steel strip, realizing cost-effective performance with high dimensional accuracy. Found in grades following ASTM A513 and A500 specifications, carbon steel welded tubing is applied to low–pressure applications, structural framing, and machinery parts. It has satisfactory weldability, tensile strength, and surface quality. This tubing is suitable for low to medium pressure systems and can be extensively applied in building construction, agriculture, fabrication, and mechanical structures with a need for toughness and reliability.
Welded carbon steel tubing consists of 0.10–0.25% C and 0.30–1.35% Mn with residual amounts of P and S. It provides tensile strength of ~330–550 MPa and yield strength of ~200–400 MPa. Elongation is 15–25%. Welded tubing is general-purpose, providing good structural solidity with favorable weldability. Although it is not satisfactory for high-pressure or thermal stress application like seamless tubing, it is suitable for general-purpose applications. The weld seam is flash-taken out or welded both externally and internally, based on the intended use, for free-flowing and consistent load-bearing capacity.
