Aluminium 5083 is filled with magnesium and minor constituents of manganese and chromium to improve strength and resistance to corrosion. It is strain–hardened but not heat-treatable to enhance strength. Our 5083 tubing comes in seamless and welded forms and meets ASTM B210 and B241 standards. It is extensively applied in ship construction, cryogenic tanks, military equipment, and offshore structures demanding lightweight, corrosion-resistant materials.
Aluminium 5083 has ~4.0–4.9% Mg, 0.4–1.0% Mn, and 0.05–0.25% Cr. It offers tensile strength ~330–350 MPa, yield strength ~230 MPa, and elongation of ~10–12%. It is not heat-treatable but may be hardened by cold working. The alloy is very good in saltwater conditions and has good resistance to industrial chemicals. The alloy retains strength even at cryogenic low temperature. Aluminium 5083 has welding properties, low heat expansion, and good fatigue resistance and can be used in extreme, load-bearing applications in marine and defence industries.
